On the contrary, I find cats to be quite intelligent creatures! Their independent nature makes them less needy or clingy than other pets and more able to survive on their own. A dog, on the other hand, will readily do whatever it's owner asks it to do if it sees its owner as his pack leader. A cat is less likely to follow orders from its owner because it will be thinking "what's in it for me?"
That said, I still love dogs more since they're so darn cute and cuddly and much more playful :3

I agree with both of you. I despise cats mostly cuz I'm allergic. However, I agree that their independence is a sign as intelligence. However, on (at least) my dog's defense, dogs can be very resourceful and very intelligent as well. You can practically ask her any yes or no question and get the right answer (if you know what is the right answer). I've seen my dog break normal conformities of being a dog and do things she shouldn't even know how to do. Like stretch her small body to get something off of the table. That being said, I still dislike cats with a passion.

I definatly prefer cats. To me, dogs are loud and they smell bad. I can put up with that if I have to, but they can also be a little too playful for my taste. I've been attacked by dogs who thought they were playing.

Actually I think I remember reading somewhere that the most intelligent household animal is the pig, and the most intelligent animal on earth (besides humans) are gorillas. But yes, dogs can be pretty clever, too. I suppose it really just depends on the animal itself.

But pigs are intelligent! D: No matter how long they've been domesticated, if you ever set them back into the wild they'll be able to adapt and revert back to their wild insticts! That's what sets them apart from dogs or cats or other animals. If you were to set an average dog or cat out in the wild, it would surely die in a matter of days. And cats are smart to a degree as well and some would argue that they can also tell how their owners are feeling. There are many stories of a cat saving a person's life. Now what on earth did a cat do to you that makes you believe that they're stupid?

Oh, I forgot how scarily accurate kids books are. Dogs are my preference if I needed to choose, but mostly because my dad's alergic to cats.
